Description

I think my orbular IR illuminator was on during this shot. I was flipping back and forth between using & not using it while shooting around last night to test out seeing the difference.

( Editing in: This was shot with a full spectrum camera. I feel that needs to be said so you guys know that coloring isn't a filter edit. )

This is one of the of the more cooler shots taken during the shoot, except one that needs conformation of what I shot.

I'm having a bit of a laugh, Erin, with "orbular IR illuminator. I had to look that up and found myself in ghost hunting web sites! I take it that this a type of IR light source, and very handy too when there is no natural IR light. So, what is going on in this image? Why do we see what we do?

At night there is little natural light and virtually no natural IR light. With a FS spectrum camera and auto white balance, as opposed to a custom WB based on grey, if you illuminate a scene with IR light then you will get almost wholly an IR image with the normal red/orange or magenta cast - as we see here. Note how brilliantly that foliage comes through  while the background foliage is almost out of range of your light. The colour cast is quite pleasing in this shot, although the overall composition is not that interesting. I see the Tv was 1/4 s, so I'm not surprised that thee is a bit of movement blur.

Nevertheless, whatever the shortcomings of the image, it is well worth posting as an experimental piece, showing us all how to light a scene with an orbular IR illuminator!

Many Thanks for this.
